Experimenting with your hair can be a lot of fun, but only as long as you don’t starting harming them. There are a number of things you might be doing that are invariably damaging your hair. Here are a number of them:

1. Tying your hair too tight

As common as ponytails and topknots are, there is a wrong way to do it. It’s the easiest to especially if you’re busy working. But if done too tight, it might restrict blood flow to your hair follicles thus causing it to weaken and break easily. So its best to avoid wearing it tight for too long.

2. Using the wrong hairbrush

The best kind are wide-toothed combs and wide paddle brushes. They detangle your hair easily and cause less breakage without making it frizzy.

3. Backcombing or hair teasing

A great way to add instant volume to your hair, hairstylists love this trick. But this causes your hair to tangle and break.

4. Excessive styling of hair

Yes, we know how great these products make your hair look and we’re asking you to stop. But maybe don’t avoid the setting spray every time your style your hair. The chemicals present in these products can not only make your hair dry and limo but also damage it from within thus causing breakage and loss.

5. Skipping on heat protection while curling or straightening

Curling irons and straighteners might make your hair look great but the damage they can cause is pretty huge too. Avoid losing moisture to the heat by applying heat-protecting spray before you use an iron or even blow dryers. These make your hair dry and prone to breakage. Even with that, use your tool at a moderate temperature and not the highest.

6. Using hair color too often

Whether it’s a funky blue or a soft brown, experimenting with hair color can be a lot of fun. What inst fun however is the after-effect. Too much hair dye can harm keratin, thus making your hair vulnerable to breakage. Let your natural hair breathe for about a month before you color again.

7. Making dry shampoo your best friend

Dry shampoos have been trending for a while now and have become a go to product. What most people don’t realize is that they don’t have any cleaning agents at all, just ingredients to soak up oil and grease. So basically a good emergency product, but it cannot substitute your shampoo. Overusing dry shampoo can lead to buildup and eventually cause irritation and infection, and eventually lead to breakage and hair loss.

Now that you have a list, make a conscious effort to avoid them and give your hair the love that they deserve.
