Ayurvedic skincare routine has helped people maintain healthy skin since ancient times! It consists of simple methods and natural ingredients to deal with any type of skin issues. If you want to get beautiful, glowing and spotless skin naturally then follow this ayurvedic skincare regimen!

 

Determine your skin type

Determining your skin type will help you choose a regime ideal for your skin type. Ayurveda categorizes people into three doshas, which helps you in understanding what the strengths and weaknesses of your body and skin and how to treat it accordingly. These doshas are based on the five elements- Air, Space, Fire, Water and earth. The three types of skin types according to Ayurveda are:

 

1- Vata skin

Vata skin is dry, thin, and wrinkle prone skin which needs to be moisturized. People with vata skin, usually have visible veins and premature fine lines.

You can moisturize your skin with natural oils to keep your skin soft and supple. Also drinking a lot of water will keep your skin hydrated.

 

2- Pitta skin

Pitta skin is sensitive and acne-prone skin. People with pitta skin type may have freckles and moles.

You need to avoid harsh chemicals, and sun exposure to keep your skin healthy.

 

3- Kapha skin

Kapha skin is thick, smooth, oily and prone to enlarged pores.

You need to ensure that you clean your skin thoroughly, twice a day. Using a clay mask twice a month will also keep your skin clear. Avoid using oils or greasy products for your skin.

Skincare regime

After determining your skin type, you can follow one of these skincare regimen. Ayurveda has a holistic approach towards keeping your skin healthy. Apart from focusing on the methods and products you need to use for healthy skin, it also focuses on the types of food you must eat and the things you must avoid in your environment.

 

Vata skin type

Daily:

Morning: Start your day with a gentle cleanser to clean your skin without over drying it. After that, moisturize your skin with products containing ingredients like, olive oil, honey, or coconut.

Night: Wash your skin with a gentle cleanser and then apply the moisturizer.

Weekly: Massage your skin with a warm oil such as olive oil or jojoba oil, twice a week. This will help in retaining the moisture of your skin.

Diet: Include healthy fats in your diet, such as, avocado and fish and drink a lot of water, to maintain your skin’s moisture level.

Exercise: Go for exercises such as yoga or swimming.

Tip: Drinking lukewarm water is ideal for your skin type.

 

Pitta skin type

Daily

Morning: Use a natural, plant based cleanser to clean your skin in the morning. After cleansing, apply a light moisturizer with soothing ingredients. You can look for ingredients like, lavender, rose, neem or sandalwood.

Night: Wash your face with a cleanser and apply the moisturizer. Massage the moisturizer onto your skin for a minute.

Weekly: Apply an ubtan on your skin once a week. Mix 2 tablespoons of sandalwood powder with 1 tablespoon of rose water. Apply this paste on your skin and wash it off after 30 minutes.

Diet: Include food items such as, cucumbers, watermelon, pineapples and cherries in your diet.

Exercise: Stick to moderate exercises.

 

Kapha skin type

Daily:

Morning and Night: Use a cleanser to regulate the oil production of your skin without being too harsh on your skin. After cleansing, apply rose water on your skin to regulate the pH balance of your skin. Use this twice a day after cleansing. Once the rose water sinks in, apply a light moisturizer with ingredients such as lemon or rosemary.

Weekly: Use an ubtan once, every week to maintain your skin. All you need to do is, mix 2 tablespoons of gram flour with half a tablespoon of turmeric and 2 tablespoons of raw milk. Apply it on your skin and wash it off after 15 minutes.

Diet: Include turmeric, apple cider vinegar and garlic in your diet. In addition to that, include a lot of fruit and vegetable juices.

Exercise: Go for intensive workouts to maintain your skin.

According to Ayurveda stress can cause many skin problems such as acne. Meditation is one of the simplest ways to deal with anxiety and stress.

You must go to bed early and get the required amount of sleep

You must eat organic and healthy food to keep your skin healthy

Drink lots of water, fruit and vegetable juices. Avoid canned or packed drinks.
