7 Concealer Tips Every Girl Should Know

Sucharitha V , 14 Dec 22

Do you feel like no matter how much concealer or foundation you pile on, it doesn’t seem to cover up any blemishes? Are you in awe of anyone who can cover up spots and acne flawlessly? We feel you. Here are a few tips to help you make the best of that wonder product in your makeup bag:

1. Buy a shade which matches your skin tone:

A lot of women make the mistake of buying a concealer either lighter or darker than their skin tone. The first step is to get the right shade. Swatch the shades by trying them on your neck instead of your cheeks or hands. Often when the concealer is lighter, it doesn’t conceal well and the blemishes show through

2. Colour correcting

If you want to master the art of concealing, then you need to learn colour correcting. You must have seen palettes of colour correctors, in greens and peaches floating around the internet. But what exactly is color correction? Basically, it uses colour theory to correct any ‘discoloration’. For example your dark circles, pigmentation and acne. Different colours serve different purposes:

Use a small amount of corrector on the targeted area, followed by concealer and then your foundation.

3. Foundation before concealer

This simple tip will not only save your time, but also your money. If you apply foundation before concealer, you wouldn’t need to use much of your concealer as most of the blemishes would be covered. In addition to that, if you apply concealer first you will end up needing more and can look cakey. However, use this tip only for general purpose coverage and not for colour correcting.

4. Application of concealer

Use a brush with a small head and fluffy bristles for applying your concealer. Using your finger is also a good option. Use your ring finger as it would apply the lightest pressure on your skin. Use dabbing motions instead of brushing it off. After applying your concealer under your eyes, use a tissue paper to blot the excess product, this will help in avoiding creasing of your concealer.

5. Under eye concealing

Before you apply concealer, apply a lightweight eye cream to get a smooth base. Many people apply concealer in the half-moon shape under their eyes. But, for effective coverage, apply it in the form of an inverted triangle and blend it in. This will give you a natural coverage and look brighter.

6. Concealer for your lips!

Did you know that concealer can work wonders on your lips as well? If you want to create a bold statement by making your lipstick pop, line the outside of your lips with concealer and blend it in. It also works very well to create an illusion of fuller lips. Fill the centre of your lips with concealer, and dab it towards the side. Finish it with a nude lip gloss and say hellp to your plump lips.

7. As a Finishing touch:

Your concealer isnt just great to cover blemishes but add finishing touches. You can use a concealer to fix bleeding lipstick or sharpen your eyebrows. Another way is to use it to enhance your collar bones. Use a lighter shade for the sections you want to highlight and a darker shade to contour. Blend it in using a damp sponge or brush and make sure there aren’t any harsh lines.
